Originally, Bessemer veterans eligible to join the VFW belonged to the Ironwood VFW Post. The Bessemer VFW was chartered in on January 9, 1938. There are no longer any living Charter Members. When it was first organized the members of the post met at the city hall until 1947, when they remodeled the upstairs of the former Donich building. This building was located where the Big Dollar store stands today. The Post met at this location until February of 1952, when the Donich building was destroyed by fire. In October of 1953 the Post moved into the old Underwood Veneer office. This building was purchased from Conner Lumber Company for $1.00. This was located at the site of the present club, but closer to Highway US 2. In June of 1971, construction of the present clubroom began. The Post moved into the new building on February 20, 1972.
